Forrest Gump set for Bollywood remake

March 17, 2019 by Gary Collinson

THR is reporting that Robert Zemeckis’ Oscar-winning 1994 classic Forrest Gump is set for a Bollywood remake, with Aamir Khan (Thugs of Hindostan) set to take on the Tom Hanks role for a Hindi-language film entitled Lal Singh Chadha.

“We have bought the rights from Paramount,” said Khan: “I have always loved Forrest Gump as a script. It is a wonderful story about this character. It is a feel-good film. It is a film for the whole family.”

Lal Singh Chadha will begin shooting in October, with Advait Chandan (Secret Superstar) directing. It joins a growing list of official Bollywood remakes of Hollywood films, which have included Chef, Knight and Day and planned remakes of The Fault in Our Stars and Rambo.

Based on the book by Winston Groom, Forrest Gump saw Tom Hanks winning his second Academy Award for his performance in the film, which proved to be a critical and commercial smash hit with $677.9 million in box office receipts and a further five Oscars including Best Picture.
