In the adaptation of Ernest Cline’s 2011 novel, Cooke will play Art3mis – an adversary of protagonist Wade Watts in his efforts to win the real-life fortune of the founder of a virtual world.

She beat out several other young female actors to get to the part, with an earlier shortlist revealing that Elle Fanning (Maleficent) and Lola Kirke (Mistress America) were also testing for the role.

Spielberg is reportedly still in the hunt for the film’s male lead.

Ready Player One is still some distance away, set for release on December 15th 2017.
