Kevin Feige on when he realised The Avengers assembling shot would be iconic

Kevin Feige has revealed when he became aware that the Avengers assembling moment could become an iconic one.

There have been many standout moments across the Avengers films and indeed, the MCU, but the most iconic is certainly the shot of all the heroes assembling in Marvel’s The Avengers. Was the shot obviously iconic from the start though?

Apparently not to Kevin Feige who has revealed what the shot originally looked like and when he realised how special the moment was. Speaking as part of Rotten Tomatoes’ 21 Most Memorable Moments video, Feige said:

“That shot, the shot of all the Avengers assembling for the first time, was so much spectacle, so many visual effects. It was filmed in an open air warehouse in New Mexico, not in New York. There was nothing but green screen behind them. Hulk wasn’t in the shot. Iron Man wasn’t in the shot because they were CG and put in later, but it looked pretty cool and Joss had a great vision for it.

“Cut to many months later, the visual effects are coming together. It’s starting to look cool, Iron Man’s now landing, Hulk’s there. But the moment when I realized that this could be an iconic moment not just for the MCU, but for these kinds of films, was on the mix stage. You get the experience of watching the final playback on the mix stage with Alan Silvestri’s amazing score building to that moment and I got chills. And I realized Joss had pulled it off.”

It just goes to show how much work goes into creating these movies and the actual shooting is only a part of it. Perhaps we can look forward to an equally iconic moment when Avengers: Endgame arrives in cinemas.
