According to THR, Andrew Garfield (Under the Silver Lake) and Jessica Chastain (Molly’s Game) have been cast as televangelists Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker in a biopic from Fox Searchlight and director Michael Showalter (The Big Sick).
The movie is based upon the documentary The Eyes of Tammy Faye and “will track the rise and fall of the Christian personalities throughout the 1970s and ’80s, from their humble beginnings to their creation of the largest religious broadcasting network and a theme park to the fall of their empire ollowing the revelation of financial improprieties and a rape allegation leveled against Jim.”

Chastain – who will be seen this year on the big screen in X-Men: Dark Phoenix and It: Chapter Two – is set to produce the project through her Freckle Films banner.
