Clive Barker is set to adapt his 1987 fantasy horror Weaveworld as a TV series for The CW, with the British writer and filmmaker set to executive produce the project alongside Jack Kenny (Warehouse 13), who is also handling scripting duties.
Deadline is reporting that the TV adaptation will “give a contemporary makeover to the premise of the novel [as] an app designer teams up with a young pastry chef who has just discovered that she is destined to be guardian of a mythological realm that can be accessed through a portal in an old Savannah mansion. Together, they fight an epic battle with evil forces who are vying for control of the magical world.”
An adaptation of Weaveworld has been on the cards for a couple of decades now, with writer Michael Marshall Smith penning a draft of a script for an eight-hour miniseries back in the mid 90s when Showtime had the rights. Russell Mulcahy (Highlander) was also attached to direct in the early 2000s, although the project ultimately remained stuck in development hell due to its scope and the requirements for extensive visual effects.
