Helen Mirren is Catherine the Great in trailer for HBO miniseries

HBO has released a trailer for the historical drama miniseries Catherine the Great which stars Helen Mirren in the title role as the 18th century monarch and follows the story of her affair with Russian military leader Grigory Potemkin (Jason Clarke) towards the end of her reign; watch it here…

Amid scandal, intrigue and immense conflict, Russian empress Catherine the Great (Helen Mirren) develops a unique and devoted relationship with Grigory Potemkin (Jason Clarke) as they overcome their adversaries and serve as the architects of modern-day Russia.

Catherine the Great premieres this Autumn on HBO and features a cast that also includes Joseph Quinn (Game of Thrones), Gina McKee (Notting Hill), Rory Kinnear (Penny Dreadful), Richard Roxburgh (Rake), Kevin McNally (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales), Sam Palladio (Nashville), Clive Russell (Game of Thrones), Lucas Englander (Genius), Antonia Clarke (Les Miserables), Paul Ritter (Cold Feet), Paul Kaye (Game of Thrones), Thomas Doherty (Descendants 2), Raphael Acloque (Allied), James Northcoate (The Imitation Game) and Andrew Rothney (The Huntsman: Winter’s War).
