According to Collider, Crawl director Alexandre Aja is teaming up with Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Partners to direct a new interactive haunted house film with a branching narrative designed to give audiences a ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’-style horror experience.
Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the script is being written by Aja, Jeff Howard (The Haunting of Hill House) and Nick Simon (The Girl in the Photographs), from an idea by Howard and Mike Flanagan (Doctor Sleep).
The as-yet-untitled film will incorporate Kino Industries’ CtrlMovie technology, which allows for interactive narratives, with audiences able to influence the storyline using an app on their cell phones where they will be able to vote in-theater to determine what happens at pivotal points in the story.
Director Alexandra Aja has extensive experience in the horror genre, having helmed the likes of Switchblade Romance, The Hills Have Eyes, Mirrors, Piranha 3D and Horns. His latest film, the alligator disaster horror Crawl, is currently in cinemas; read our review here.
