Donnie Darko’s Richard Kelly to direct Rod Serling biopic

September 1, 2019 by Gary Collinson

It seems that Donnie Darko and Southland Tales director Richard Kelly is set to get back behind the camera for the first time in a decade, with The GWW reporting that he is set to direct a biopic of The Twilight Zone creator Rod Serling.

Serling certainly had an interesting life, serving in the Pacific Theater during World War II (his experiences leading him to becoming an outspoken antiwar activist) before embarking on a career in radio and television which included creating the beloved The Twilight Zone anthology series and its horror successor Night Gallery.

Kelly, who broke onto the scene with his acclaimed 2001 debut Donnie Darko, was last in the director’s chair for 2009’s The Box, which was based on the Richard Matheson short story Button, Button, which had previously been adapted as an episode of the 80s version of The Twilight Zone.

The filmmaker has been attached to numerous projects in the past ten years, including a 3D CGI motion capture thriller, the Eli Roth-produced Corpus Christi and the true crime thriller Amicus. However, all three failed to materialise.
