Casting begins on the BBC’s Discworld series The Watch

September 1, 2019 by Amie Cranswick

In March, it was announced that the BBC is developing an eight-episode TV series based upon Terry Pratchett’s Discworld novels, and now Deadline is reporting that the limited series has found its first cast member.

According to the trade, British actor Adam Hugill (Pennyworth) is set for one of the lead roles in the series, which revolves around the Ankh-Morpork City Watch, “misfit cops [who] fight to save a ramshackle city of normalized wrongness from both the past and future in a perilous quest.”

Hugill will play Carrot, a character who was raised as a dwarf but turned out to be an orphaned human child, and who joins the group with ambitions of pursuing a career in law enforcement.

The Watch has been written by Simon Allen (Das Boot) and will be a co-production between BBC Studios and Narrativia, the production company which is now run by the late author’s daughter Rhianna and his long time business manager Rob Wilkins.
