Christopher Eccleston would return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe on one condition

October 8, 2019 by Liam Waddington

Christopher Eccleston, who played the dark elf Malekith the Accursed in Thor: The Dark World, has stated he would consider returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe on one condition – the writers of Thor: Ragnarok returned.

During a panel at New York Comic-Con (via RadioTimes), Eccleston explained some of the complaints he had during his time on the film.

“I was in makeup for six, seven hours every day,” he says. “They didn’t tell me that upfront, so I wasn’t pleased about that… There was a lack of humour in the film, I felt… so shall we move on?”

“I understand that some people love that particular film, and some of you actually like Malekith the naughty elf, so that’s only my experience within it. But I know that people love the film and I accept that and I’m careful about it. I’m so diplomatic these days,” he continues.

That said, Eccleston claimed he had seen the follow-up Thor: Ragnarok, and thought it was “brilliantly written.” In fact, it was so well done that he’d consider coming back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe “if it was the guy[s] who wrote the third… I’ll do that.”

The third instalment of the Thor franchise, Thor: Ragnarok, was written by Eric Pearson, Craig Kyle, and Christopher L. Yost, with Taika Waititi, directing the film.

There is no word if Waititi nas any plans to bring back Malekith in the fourth film, Thor: Love and Thunder – but we all know to never say never as Marvel loves to utilise the fake death plot twist. Even if Malekith doesn’t return from the dead, it sounds like Eccleston is down for returning in some capacity.
