TV drama to examine the last weeks of Michael Jackson’s life

October 17, 2015 by Gary Collinson

According to Entertainment Weekly, author and talk show host Tavis Smiley has signed a deal with Warner Bros. Television to develop a scripted drama series based upon his upcoming book Before You Judge Me: The Triumph and Tragedy of Michael Jackson’s Last Days, which is set for publication next year.

The series will “examine the soaring highs and deep lows faced by the late pop star — his constant hunt for privacy in a life that was more public than almost any other, and the pressures he endured as someone whose fame made him socially fragile and almost unable to live.”

The deal follows Warner’s previous acquisition of Smiley’s book Death of a King: The Real Story of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Final Year, whcih is being developed by J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions.
