The New Mutants star believes the long-delayed X-Men movie will come out next year

December 19, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Charlie Heaton, one of the stars of The New Mutants, says the film will finally be coming out next year.

Fox’s X-Men spinoff movie, The New Mutants has had a pretty difficult production history. The film was shot years ago but with numerous delays, planned reshoots that never materialised, and the Disney purchase of 20th Century Fox, it has yet to see the light of day.

When can we expect to see it? Well, Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things), recently appeared at the convention For the Love of Sci-Fi (via X-Men Films), and gave an update:

“I don’t know,” Heaton joked about not know the release date. “No, it’s coming out next year, but we filmed it almost two years ago. It’s the release [date] that’s been moved quite a while.”

Disney has set a theatrical release date of April 3rd 2020 for The New Mutants, but we’ve seen absolutely nothing in the way of promotional material, and there’s been lots of speculation that the film could end up going direct to Disney+ or Hulu, particularly after the dismal box office performance of X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

Do you think we’ll see The New Mutants next year? Do you even care anymore at this point? Let us know in the comments or on our social channels…

The New Mutants is directed by Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars) and features a cast includes Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) as Rahne Sinclair/Wolfsbane, Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch) as Illyana Rasputin/Magik, Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things) as Sam Guthrie/Cannonball, Henry Zaga (13 Reasons Why) as Roberto da Costa/Sunspot, Blu Hunt (The Originals) as Danielle Moonstar/Mirage and Alice Braga (Queen of the South) as Dr. Cecilia Reyes.
