Kickstarter launched to bring back 16-bit action hero Jim Power

January 20, 2020 by Andrew Newton

Piko Interactive has launched a Kickstarter project to see the return of 16 bit action hero Jim Power.  Jim first appeared on the Amiga, Atari ST and a few other platforms back in 1992 in Mutant Planet and entertained players with non-stop action backed up with an excellent soundtrack from the legendary Chris Hülsbeck; a sequel, Jim Power: The Lost Dimensions in 3D was released in 1993 on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES).

Jim Power’s revival will see a new platform adventure released on multiple platforms with a Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) version being programmed by Shiru, a SNES version with updates such as the removal of parallax scrolling and different level endings, a Sega Genesis version completed (this version was cancelled back in ’93), a TurboGrafx CD, and an Amiga CD32 edition.

“Reviving Jim Power started way back in 2014 with a planned release a couple years later. While it was interesting that we discovered a fully playable Sega Genesis version, we began work on the Nintendo NES port almost immediately.” Eli Galindo, Piko Interactive owner, continues, “After some unfortunate setbacks in 2018 we were able to full acquire the rights to Jim Power in late 2019 allowing us to do more than just a port and fixing previous releases. We can now do comics, toys, OVA content, etc – as much as fans want to see. It all starts with this Kickstarter project.”

Stretch goals for the Kickstarter will include a version for both Playstation 4 and Nintendo Switch (but why no Xbox One?), comics, animation specials, and more.
