The Batman’s Robert Pattinson says blockbusters can be more dangerous for actors than indies

January 31, 2020 by Samuel Brace

Robert Pattinson, the star of The Batman, has said that blockbusters can be more dangerous for an actor’s career than indies.

Robert Pattinson has had a pretty interesting career. He made his name with the hugely popular Twilight films and since then has revamped his look as an actor by taking parts in indie films.

He is bucking the trend with The Batman, returning to the main stage once more, but the actor felt like a move to the indie scene was important for him as blockbuster films can destroy an actor’s career and be “much more dangerous” than indies. Speaking to the BBC, he said:

“You can see quite a lot of examples of it not really working out for people, so I just thought it would be a silly idea to try to do a massive action movie or something. I always think that whatever movie you’re doing, there’s a potential that it’s the last movie you’re ever going to get, and so I don’t want to end my career on a ‘transitional’ movie.”

Fingers crossed Pattinson finds success with The Batman, if things don’t go as planned, don’t be surprised to see him retreat the safety of independent movies once more.

The Batman sees Robert Pattinson (The Lighthouse) donning the cape and cowl as Bruce Wayne/Batman in Reeves’ film. Joining him will be Zoe Kravitz (Big Little Lies) as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Colin Farrell (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them) as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin, Paul Dano (Escape at Dannemora) as Edward Nygma/The Riddler, Jeffrey Wright (Westworld) as Jim Gordon, Andy Serkis (War for the Planet of the Apes) as Alfred Pennyworth, John Turturro (The Big Lebowski) as Carmine Falcone, Alex Ferns (EastEnders) as Commissioner Pete Savage, Con O’Neill (Ordinary Lies) as Chief Mackenzie Bock with Peter Sarsgaard (The Killing) and newcomer Jayme Lawson in as yet unrevealed roles.

The Batman will be released June 25th, 2021.
