Han actor Sung Kang discusses his Fast & Furious 9 return

February 3, 2020 by Liam Waddington

To the surprise of all the fans, the final shot of the first Fast & Furious 9 trailer showed the return of Han, played by Sung Kang, who was presumed dead after the events of Fast & Furious 6.

Since Han’s “death” fans have been campaigning for #JusticeForHan, now in an interview with the LA Times, Sung Kang opened up about the movement and how he feels to be back in the franchise.

“It’s emotional — it feels like I’m going back to a family reunion. It’s a relationship that has been missing in my life since the last Fast.”

While Kang doesn’t give too much information away regarding how Han is back from the dead or why now he is back in the family now, he was willing to tease:

“We know who and what Han is. And we’re older now. This Han is older. The things that we’ve learned as men in our personal lives, I hope it can transcend on-screen. I hope we do it justice.”

For anyone who may be unaware, in Fast & Furious 6 it was revealed that Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw was the culprit behind Han’s death before Shaw was redeemed and brought into the family – which never sat right with fans as the films never mentioned this twist again until the filmmakers hinted at this event in Hobbs & Shaw.

However, Kang initially didn’t seem to think anything would come from the #JusticeForHan movement until the canon storyline was changed for the Shaw twist.

“When Shaw came in and was revealed to be the killer and got invited into the family fold … that’s where you went, ‘Well, is this character being respected?’”
