Harrison Ford on returning as Han Solo in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

February 12, 2020 by Liam Waddington

Harrison Ford has publicly stated since the Original Trilogy that he was keen for Han Solo to die for the benefit of the overall Skywalker Saga, and the actor finally got his wish at the hands of Kylo Ren in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

However, as a surprise to everyone, Ford made a small appearance during the redemption of Ben Solo in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. In a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Ford explained that despite him thinking the character had been exhausted, he was willing to return for the one sequence because J.J Abrams thought it was a good idea.

“I figured that his utility had been exhausted, bled out, and was … well, I was willing to die for the cause. Bring some gravitas,” Ford explained. As far as his return, Ford added, “No good deed goes unpunished.”

“J.J. said, ‘This is a good idea. I, J.J., have decided that this is a good idea and I would like you to do it,'” Ford detailed about the return. When Kimmel asked if the actor trusted Abrams, Ford joked, “Don’t you?”
