Rian Johnson says The Knives Out sequel won’t demystify Benoit Blanc

February 21, 2020 by Samuel Brace

Rian Johnson, director of Knives Out, says that the sequel won’t demystify Benoit Blanc.

Rian Johnson found great success with his Agatha Christie inspired murder mystery film Knives Out, entertaining fans and picking up plenty of awards in the process.

A sequel is now in the works but Johnson says fans shouldn’t be worried about detective Benoit Blanc becoming demystified as the film will not delve deeply into his backstory. Speaking to Vulture, Johnson said:

“This’ll be another Poirot novel. This’ll be just like what Agatha Christie did. It’s disconnected from Knives Out. It’s just another case.”

He was also asked how far along the script is for the sequel: “Not far enough, is the perpetual answer. I’m in the middle of it right now. Just kind of … I don’t know … working on it.”

It’s going to be fun to see what Johnson cooks up! Are you looking forward to seeing more of Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc? Let us know in the comments below and on social media.

Acclaimed writer and director Rian Johnson (Brick, Looper, The Last Jedi) pays tribute to mystery mastermind Agatha Christie in KNIVES OUT, a fun, modern-day murder mystery where everyone is a suspect. When renowned crime novelist Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) is found dead at his estate just after his 85th birthday, the inquisitive and debonair Detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) is mysteriously enlisted to investigate. From Harlan’s dysfunctional family to his devoted staff, Blanc sifts through a web of red herrings and self-serving lies to uncover the truth behind Harlan’s untimely death. With an all-star ensemble cast including Chris Evans, Ana De Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Don Johnson, Michael Shannon, Toni Collette, LaKeith Stanfield, Katherine Langford and Jaeden Martell, KNIVES OUT is a witty and stylish whodunit guaranteed to keep audiences guessing until the very end.
