Luke Hemsworth says it “really hurt” missing out on Solo: A Star Wars Story

March 18, 2020 by Samuel Brace

Luke Hemsworth, one of the stars of Westworld, says it “really hurt” missing out on Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Landing a gig in a Star Wars movie is no easy feat. Securing a starring role would be a dream come true for many an actor so there must be a lot of disappointment for those who don’t quite make the cut.

Luke Hemsworth (Westworld) is one of these actors, having auditioned for the role of Han in Solo: A Star Wars Story. He didn’t get the part of course, losing out to Alden Ehrenreich, and he has recalled to news.com.au how much this hurt:

“I’ve definitely auditioned for Solo, Han Solo. I really wanted that. That one really hurt more than others because I wanted it so much. You develop a thick skin fairly quickly because more often than not you’re getting turned down.

“The nature of auditions is you never get feedback. They’re usually pretty weird. You’re just in a chair. It’s really hard. Confidence is sometimes … It’s bullshit. It’s a bravado. You’re pretending, you’re just trying to get through a performance that doesn’t look like you’re sh-tting yourself. Everyone is just sitting there waiting for you to do something cool. You quickly have to develop a thick skin otherwise you fall apart.”

Acting is certainly a cutthroat profession. Hopefully, Hemsworth can get involved in another Star Wars project down the line to make up for missing out on Solo.

A new adventure with the most beloved scoundrel in the galaxy. Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his mighty future copilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga’s most unlikely heroes.

Solo: A Star Wars Story starsAlden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar!) as Han Solo, Donald Glover (Atlanta) as Lando Calrissian, Woody Harrelson (War for the Planet of the Apes) as Tobias Beckett, Joonas Suotamo (Star Wars: The Last Jedi) as Chewbacca, Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) as L3-37, Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) as Qi’ra, Thandie Newton (Westworld) as Val and Paul Bettany (Avengers: Infinity War) as Dryden Vos.
