Dwayne Johnson provides an update on Black Adam as filming pushed to end of summer

April 14, 2020 by Liam Waddington

Due to the current global health crisis, film projects are being delayed from their initial production start date, receiving release date delays or halting production as a whole. Now, according to Dwayne Johnson, it looks like the production start date for the upcoming DC feature Black Adam has been affected and filming will begin later than previously stated.

In a recent live Q&A session on Instagram (via CinemaBlend), Johnson shared an update on Black Adam, stating the film will probably start shooting in “August, maybe September” rather than its intended July date.

“Black Adam we still plan on shooting probably at the end of summer now – probably pushed maybe into August, maybe September. So we will see, but I can’t wait for that. I have been training so hard for months and months and months and months for Black Adam. And that is a passion project for me, it’s a role that I hold dear in [my heart], and into my DNA. So I can’t wait.”

When Johnson claims Black Adam is a passion project for him, it’s easy to believe him as he has previously stated that he’s been trying to get the DC project off the ground for over a decade now with discussions originally starting in 2008.

While plot details are being kept under wraps, Black Adam is being directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (Jungle Cruise, The Shallows) and is expected to follow the DC supervillain as an anti-hero, similar to the modern comic book interpretation of the character. However, don’t expect a confrontation between Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam and Zachary Levi’s Shazam as Levi has previously stated that the two powerhouses won’t clash until Shazam! 3.

Black Adam is currently slated for a December 22nd 2021 release.
