Rumour: Hannah John-Kamen offered Jill Valentine role in Resident Evil movie reboot

May 3, 2020 by Gary Collinson

The dust had barely settled on Paul W.S. Anderson and Milla Jovovich’s Resident Evil movie series before rights holders Constantin Film announced that it would be rebooting the franchise, tapping director Johannes Roberts (47 Meters Down) to launch a new series of films more in line with the survival horror aesthetic of the video game source material.

It’s been a good few months now since we’ve had any update on the project (where Roberts promised it will be “super, super scary” and go “back to the roots of the game”) but now we have some potential casting news, with The Illuminerdi claiming that Ant-Man and the Wasp actress Hannah John-Kamen has been offered the role of protagonist Jill Valentine.

According to the site, the new movie’s version of Jill is described as “a small town girl that enjoys hunting with the guys. She is gorgeous yet tough, and she knows how to have a good time.” Apparently the character is being eyed as a major focal point of the franchise, and so the actress will need to be ready to commit to multiple movies.

Jill Valentine did feature in three of the original Resident Evil movies, where she was portrayed by Sienna Guillory, although the character took a back seat to Milla Jovovich’s Alice, who was created specifically for the films.

Are you looking forward to a new take on Resident Evil? Would you like to see Hannah John-Kamen taking on the role of Jill Valentine? Let us know in the comments below or on our social channels @FlickeringMyth…
