New details revealed on Timothy Olyphant’s character in The Mandalorian season 2

May 20, 2020 by Liam Waddington

Recently, it was announced Timothy Olyphant has joined the cast for the second season of The Mandalorian. Now, further details have been revealed regarding Olyphant’s role and fans of the Star Wars books may be familiar with this backstory.

According to SlashFilm, Olyphant has filmed scenes wearing Boba Fett’s Mandalorian armour and while this may sound confusing as a returning Temuera Morrison has reportedly been cast of the iconic bounty hunter, this hints that Olyphant could possibly be playing Cobb Vanth – although this is not officially confirmed by Lucasfilm as of yet.

For anyone who is unfamiliar with Cobb Vanth, he was first introduced in Chuck Wendig’s Aftermath book series and is the self-appointed sheriff of the Tatooine-based settlement Freetown. However, Vanth wears a set of Mandalorian armour that closely resembles Boba Fett’s that he acquires from the Jawas who scavenged the wreckage of Jabba the Hutt’s sail barge after the events of Return of the Jedi.

While this is currently pure speculation, it is safe to assume that the return of Boba Fett and a secondary mysterious character wearing his famous armour could be linked to the events of the Aftermath book series.

Do you think Timothy Olyphant could be playing Cobb Vanth in the second season of The Mandalorian? Let us know in the comments below or tweet us @flickeringmyth…

The Mandalorian season two is set to premiere in October 2020 and sees the returning Pedro Pascal (Din Djarin), Gina Carano (Cara Dune), Carl Weathers (Greef Karga), Giancarlo Esposito (Moff Gideon) and Bill Burr (Mayfield) alongside new cast additions Rosario Dawson (Daredevil), Temuera Morrison (Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones), Katee Sackhoff (Star Wars: The Clone Wars), Timothy Olyphant (Justified) and Michael Biehn (The Terminator).
