Brie Larson reveals she originally turned down Captain Marvel

September 9, 2020 by Samuel Brace

Before Brie Larson accepted the role of Captain Marvel, the actress apparently turned the opportunity down twice, citing feelings of anxiety.

After appearing as Captain Marvel a couple of times in the MCU – and with future appearances scheduled – Brie Larson has cemented herself as a big part of the biggest franchise in movies today.

However, the actress didn’t want the part at first, revealing on YouTube that she rejected Captain Marvel when she was first approached about it:

“I remember getting a call when I was shooting Kong. …And I remember they [Larson’s team] called and they said, ‘Marvel is interested in you playing Captain Marvel.’ And I was like, oh I can’t do that, I have too much anxiety. That’s too much for me, I don’t think I can handle that, and I was like, so tell them no. And my team was like, ‘Okay for sure.’ I think a couple months later they were like, ‘Hey they [Marvel] called again are you sure,’ and I was like, yeah, I’m too much of an introvert.”

She eventually accepted the role after turning it down twice once she attended a pitch meeting and realised that she jived with their approach to the movie and what they were trying to achieve.

You would think that every actor would jump at the chance to star in a massive Marvel franchise but it seems that this is not the case. Larson is surely quite pleased with the way things turned out, however.
