Amazon’s The Boys gets violently fun Baby Laser Tag app

September 15, 2020 by Eammon Jacobs

Eammon Jacobs gets hands on with the Baby Laser Tag app for Amazon’s The Boys…

While Amazon Prime’s The Boys continues to thrill audiences week-by-week with the heinous antics of the superhero group, a new app gives audiences their very own super-baby with laser eyes in this violently fun Baby Laser Tag augmented reality app.

The new tie-in for Amazon Prime’s The Boys gives audiences the thrill of being one of Billy Butcher’s crew from the comfort of their own home. Although, fair warning, just because players control a baby with laser eyes doesn’t mean this is a kid friendly affair -quite the opposite. But then, anyone who’s seen The Boys will know that it’s the most adult-take on superheroes possible. The app lets you blast away members of Vought’s security team as well as members of The Seven themselves.

As any fan of the series knows, Karl Urban’s Billy Butcher has some colourfully inventive lines throughout the show (keeping in line with the source material from Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, of course) and the Baby Laser Tag app is no different. It gives players a minimal story, explaining that the team rescued one of the babies we briefly glimpsed in the first season, and Vought are coming to retrieve their property. Of course, bloody carnage ensues.

Since I’m personally a huge fan of The Boys show as well as the gruesomely brilliant comics, I was more than happy to be sent a promo pack for both the series and the app. It’s hard not to chuckle looking at the hoodie (designed by Jimmy Gorecki) which features a striking shot of the baby with laser eyes.  If you’re looking for something to keep you going between each episode of the series each week, the app is surprisingly addictive. Waves of Vought goons might be easy to dispatch, but The Seven can take more of a toasting.

The series remains one of the most extreme and unpredictable shows available on streaming right now, but it’s also weirdly refreshing to see Amazon heavily lean into that with all the marketing. The app is available for iOS and Android.
