Joker star Joaquin Phoenix has reportedly been offered $50 million for two sequels

September 16, 2020 by Samuel Brace

Joaquin Phoenix, the star of Joker, has reportedly been offered a massive $50 million to star in two sequels.

Joker was a massive hit, commercially and critically, causing many to crave a sequel to the Joaquin Phoenix led film.

With Phoenix involved, a sequel always felt like a long shot but both director and star didn’t necessarily seem opposed to the idea.

Well, now a new report by The Mirror has claimed that Warner Bros. is bringing out the big bucks to convince Phoenix to agree to make not one but two sequels. They have apparently offered the actor $50 million dollars for Joker 2 and 3, trying to leave him with no choice but to accept the biggest payday of his career.

An insider told The Mirror: “Joaquin initially felt Joker was a standalone movie. But he’s changed his tune now. He says he wants to play this character again, despite the controversies that came with the release last year.

“It’s still being negotiated but the scripts are being written and Joaquin is very engaged with it. They plan to make two sequels in the next four years, with a long-term commitment to Joaquin and his Joker director Todd Phillips and producer Bradley Cooper. It’s all about getting Joaquin to accept the terms – and the biggest payday of his career by far.”

The report also says that WB was as shocked as anyone about the first film’s success and that they want the next two films to come out in 2022 and 2024 respectively.

Will Phoenix accept? Is the report accurate? We will have to wait and see, but let us know if you’d like to see the actor back for two further outings as the Clown Prince of Crime…

Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix (The Sisters Brothers), Robert De Niro (Goodfellas), Zazie Beetz (Deadpool 2), Bill Camp (Red Sparrow), Frances Conroy (American Horror Story), Brett Cullen (Narcos), Glenn Fleshler (Billions), Douglas Hodge (Penny Dreadful), Marc Maron (GLOW), Josh Pais (Motherless Brooklyn), Shea Whigham (Kong: Skull Island), Douglas Hodge (Robin Hood) and Dante Pereira-Olson (You Were Never Really Here).
