Henry Cavill won’t be taking part in Zack Snyder’s Justice League reshoots, budget reportedly $70 million

September 27, 2020 by Amie Cranswick

Earlier this week it was revealed that Zack Snyder is planning a week of filming this October in order to complete the ‘Snyder Cut’ of Justice League ahead of its release as a four-part limited series on HBO Max next year.

The original report claimed that Ben Affleck (Batman), Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Ray Fisher (Cyborg) and Henry Cavill (Superman) would all be involved, but it seems that may be inaccurate as Cavill has stated recently that he hasn’t spoken to anyone at Warner Bros. about returning as the Man of Steel and is “now just watching the party”.

“Not shooting anything additional,” Cavill told Collider just prior to the news about reshoots. “No. It’s all stuff that has been already done. Obviously I don’t know how things are going to evolve and change and adapt depending on now a different length of movie and whatever may happen in post-production. Whatever lessons may be learned from what is it four years since Justice League came out? Four years’ worth of fan reaction. For me… I’m now just watching the party.”

With Cavill’s comments coming before the Justice League reshoot news, it’s possible he was simply playing coy about returning as Superman. However, given that he’s currently in the UK shooting season two of Netflix’s The Witcher, it would surely be extremely difficult – if not impossible – for him to commute between two sets due to the restrictions in place as a result of the global health crisis.

However, multiple sources are reporting that the additional photography will indeed take place, while The Wrap has gone as far as to claim that WarnerMedia is sinking as much as $70 million into completing The Snyder Cut. Initial estimates put the figure around $30 million, although Bob Greenblatt, the head of HBO Max, has previously dismissed that, describing it as “wildly expensive… I’ll just say I wish it was $30 million and stop there.”

In Justice League, fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League is directed by Zack Snyder and features Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta and Robin Wright as General Antiope, J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon, Amber Heard as Mera, Ciaran Hinds as Steppenwolf and Ray Porter as Darkseid.
