Zack Snyder isn’t expecting another DCEU return after Justice League

November 21, 2020 by Gary Collinson

Zack Snyder is currently deep in post-production on The Snyder Cut of Justice League ahead of its release on HBO Max next year, and while the filmmaker has been given the opportunity to complete his vision for the 2017 DC blockbuster, that doesn’t mean he’ll get to tell the full story that he envisioned for the DC Extended Universe.

Snyder has made no secret that his original intention with Justice League was to set the stage for a sequel where the heroes would have found themselves in the post-apocalyptic world glimpsed during the Knightmare sequence of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, with the surviving members of the League then using The Flash’s time-travelling abilities to try and undo the devastation caused by Darkseid, Avengers: Endgame-style.

While news of Snyder’s return to Justice League has been met with enthusiasm by fans, the filmmaker has now moved to downplay speculation that Justice League Part Two could be next, telling The Film Junkee that: “Listen, I’m just gonna say this: My honest answer is I don’t have any expectation that there would be more movies than this. If that happened that would be amazing, but that bridge is far away and…it is what it is. Frankly, I’m cool.”

Given that Warner Bros. already sunk over $300 million into Justice League’s initial production (not including marketing and promotion), along with a further $70 million or so into completion of The Snyder Cut, one would assume that Zack Snyder’s Justice League would have to perform EXCEPTIONALLY well on HBO Max for the studio to even begin to contemplate a sequel. However, stranger things have happened…

Could you see Warner Bros. and Snyder reuniting for a second Justice League movie, or are we getting way ahead of ourselves here? Let us know your thoughts on our social channels @FlickeringMyth…

In Justice League, fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes-Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg, and The Flash-it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League is directed by Zack Snyder and features Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta, Robin Wright as General Antiope, J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon, Amber Heard as Mera, Ciaran Hinds as Steppenwolf, Joe Manganiello as Deathstroke, Jared Leto as The Joker and Ray Porter as Darkseid.
