Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi series will feature a rematch with Darth Vader

December 14, 2020 by Gary Collinson

During last week’s Disney Investor Day, Lucasfilm chief Kathleen Kennedy revealed that Hayden Christensen is set to reunite with his Prequel Trilogy star Ewan McGregor on the upcoming Star Wars: Obi Wan Kenobi series as he reprises the role of Darth Vader, and now we have confirmation from director Deborah Chow that the show will feature a rematch between former Master and Apprentice.

“This is quite a dark time we’re coming into with him,” said Chow. “Just being a Jedi is not safe. There are Jedi hunters out there… We couldn’t tell the story of Obi-Wan Kenobi without addressing Anakin or Vader. We all definitely see Obi-Wan and Darth Vader get into it again.”

“There’s a hunger for this character to come back, the fans have been waiting long enough,” added McGregor. “I’m closer in age to [original Obi-Wan actor] Alec Guinness now, more worldly and wise… [Obi-Wan] has this one task left: To keep Luke safe. We start on Tatooine and go on quite a rollicking adventure.”

Are you looking forward to seeing a rematch between Obi-Wan and Darth Vader? Should that have been reserved for A New Hope? Let us know your thoughts on our social channels @FlickeringMyth…
