Buffy and Angel stars speak out against Joss Whedon for toxic behaviour

February 12, 2021 by Gary Collinson

Months on from Justice League actor Ray Fisher slamming the director for his “gross, abusive and unprofessional” behaviour towards the cast and crew of the DC blockbuster, Joss Whedon is back in the headlines again as several stars from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel have now spoken out in support of their co-star Charisma Carpenter after the actress discussed her own abhorrent experience with Whedon during her time on the shows.

Carpenter shared her story with a tweet entitled ‘My truth #IStayWithRayFisher’, during which she accused Whedon of frequently abusing his power on set during production of both Buffy and Angel and detailed how it has affected her in the years since they worked together. Following Carpenter’s post, several of her co-stars – including Sarah Michelle Gellar, Amber Benson and Michelle Trachtenberg – then offered statements of support, seemingly corroborate her allegations about Whedon and his shitty behaviour:

Buffy was a toxic environment and it starts at the top. @AllCharisma is speaking truth and I support her 100%. There was a lot of damage done during that time and many of us are still processing it twenty plus years later. #IStandWithRayFisher #IStandWithCharismaCarpenter https://t.co/WJAmDGm76C

As of the time of writing, neither Whedon nor his representatives have responded to any of the posts or allegations, and he’s yet to issue any kind of comments since his exit from HBO’s The Nevers back in November, which Ray Fisher claimed was a direct result of WarnerMedia’s investigation into Justice League.
