Rampage director Brad Peyton to direct Sniper Elite movie

March 28, 2021 by Gary Collinson

Director Brad Peyton is set to follow up 2018’s Rampage by bringing another video game franchise to the big screen with Variety reporting that the filmmaker is attached to helm a Sniper Elite movie.

As revealed by the trade, the Sniper Elite movie is described as a “Sherlock Holmes meets The Bourne Identity thriller” and will follow “an elite Allied sniper, Karl Fairburne, who engages in a cat-and-mouse chase through the streets of London at the height of the Blitz during World War II, as he tries to save British Prime Minister Winston Churchill from a Nazi assassin.”

Sniper Elite is being produced by Rebellion, the British company behind the video game (and the classic 2000AD comic book), as part of its expansion into film and television which kicked off this year with its debut release School’s Out Forever. Other projects in the works include the Judge Dredd series Mega-City One and a Rogue Trooper movie from Duncan Jones.

The Sniper Elite franchise launched back in 2005 and spans four main instalments, along with the Zombie Army spinoff series. The games have sold over 30 million units worldwide.
