Netflix renews Bridgerton for seasons 3 and 4

April 17, 2021 by Amie Cranswick

Netflix may have caused an uproar when it was announced that actor Regé-Jean Page won’t be returning for the second season, but it seems the streamer is confident enough that fans will be returning for more Bridgerton, so much so that it has granted a third and fourth season renewal to the hugely successful Shondaland period drama.

“This two-season pickup is a strong vote of confidence in our work,” said Shondaland’s Shonda Rhimes. “Betsy Beers and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to continue bringing the world of Bridgerton to a worldwide audience.”

“Bridgerton swept us off our feet,” added Netflix’s Bela Bajaria. “The creative team, led by Shonda, knew the material and delivered a beautiful, emotional, romantic drama for our members. They have some exciting plans for the future, and we think audiences will continue to swoon for this show. We’re planning to be in the Bridgerton business for a long time to come.”

Bridgerton is based upon the novels of Julia Quinn and has been a huge success for Netflix, having smashed viewing records with over 82 million households tuning in during the show’s first month. The second season is expected to adapt Quinn’s book The Viscount Who Loved Me.

Based on Julia Quinn’s best-selling series of novels, spanning from 2000 to 2013, this smart feminist take on Regency England romance unveils the glittering, wealthy, sexual, painful, funny, and sometimes lonely lives of the women and men in London’s high society marriage mart as told through the eyes of the powerful Bridgerton family.

The series is set in the world of Regency London high society, unveiling a seductive and sumptuous world composed of intricate rules and dramatic power struggles, in which no one is ever on steady ground. At the center of it all is the funny, witting and clever Bridgerton family, comprised of eight siblings who must navigate the upper ten-thousands’ marriage mart in search of romance, adventure, and love.

The first season of Bridgerton is available to stream now on Netflix.
