HBO Max delays The Prince following death of Prince Philip

May 14, 2021 by Gary Collinson

HBO Max has announced that it has postponed the release of its upcoming satirical animated series The Prince following the death of Prince Philip last month.

The animated series, which follows the young Prince George and his extended Royal Family, was expected to premiere in the Spring, but a spokesperson for HBO Max has now stated that: “We were saddened to learn of Prince Philip’s passing and will adjust plans for the series debut. A new date will be announced at a later time.”

According to a source of The Hollywood Reporter, the series “does not portray the husband of Queen Elizabeth in the most flattering of ways” and it is unclear at this point whether there are any plans to make changes to the show in light of the Duke of Edinburgh’s death prior to its premiere.

The Prince has been created by Family Guy writer Gary Janetti who voices Prince George alongside Iwan Rheon as Prince William, Lucy Punch as Kate Middleton, Orlando Bloom as Prince Harry, Condola Rashad as Meghan Markle, Frances De La Tour as Queen Elizabeth, Tom Hollander and Prince Philip and Prince Charles, and Alan Cumming as Prince George’s butler Owen.
