UK teaser and promo images for Paul Verhoeven’s erotic drama Benadetta

June 4, 2021 by Gary Collinson

Mubi has announced that it has acquired the UK distribution rights to Benedetta, the new film from legendary Dutch filmmaker Paul Verhoeven (RoboCop, Basic Instinct) which is based on historian Judith C. Brown’s book Immodest Acts and stars Virginie Efira (Elle) as a young nun who joins an Italian convent and begins a love affair with another woman.

Check out a batch of promotional images from the film along with the new UK teaser trailer below…

Set in the late 17th century and inspired by true events, the film follows a woman who joins a convent in Pescia, Tuscany as a plague ravages the land that surrounds it. Capable of performing miracles from an early age, Benedetta’s impact on life in the community is immediate and momentous.

Directed by Paul Verhoeven, Benedetta stars Virginie Efira (Elle, In Bed with Victoria, Sibyl), Charlotte Rampling (45 Years, Red Sparrow, Swimming Pool), Daphné Patakia (Nimic), Lambert Wilson (The Matrix Reloaded, Catwoman) and Olivier Rabourdin (Eastern Boys, Of Gods and Men).
