Kingpin sequel in the works from The Farrelly Brothers

June 10, 2021 by Matt Rodgers

Bobby and Peter Farrelly are looking to set up the pins once again for a sequel to their 1996 comedy Kingpin. According to Collider, the brothers behind There’s Something About Mary and Dumb and Dumber will produce the follow-up, which is in the early stages of development.

The original Kingpin starred Woody Harrelson, Randy Quaid, Vanessa Angel and Bill Murray, and it told the story of an alcoholic ex-professional bowler (Harrelson) who becomes the manager for a promising Amish talent (Quaid). Released in the wake of the phenomenal success of Dumb and Dumber, the film was only a mild success, grossing $25 million at the domestic box-office. In the interim it has attained cult-status, which is probably why Village Roadshow Pictures have decided to dust off the bowling ball for this belated sequel.

At this stage there isn’t even a script, and it’s not known how much Bobby and Peter Farrelly will be involved, the latter having carved out a dramatic niche with the Oscar-winning Green Book and the in-production adaptation of The Longest Beer Run Ever.
