Catherine Zeta-Jones to play Morticia in Netflix’s Wednesday Addams series

August 10, 2021 by EJ Moreno

Luis Guzman recently signed on to Wednesday, the new Tim Burton show about The Addams Family. He’ll play Gomez Addams, but Gomez is nothing without Morticia. Now, we have our Morticia.

Catherine Zeta-Jones has joined the cast of Burton’s Wednesday, which stars Jenna Ortega (The Babysitter: Killer Queen, Scream) in the title role. Zeta-Jones will appear as Morticia Addams, the mother of Wednesday and wife of Gomez. Both Guzmán and Zeta-Jones are listed as“guest stars for the series, so expect their roles to be fairly limited.

Catherine Zeta-Jones is joining the iconic roster of women to play the beloved Morticia Addams. Carolyn Jones originated the role in the 1964 series, Anjelica Huston famously played Morticia in the two 90s films, and even Daryl Hannah portrayed the character in a straight-to-video adaptation. Charlize Theron also voiced the character in the 2019 animated movie and its upcoming sequel.

The series is described as “a supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy as she attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.”
