Netflix acquires rights to upcoming Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequel

August 31, 2021 by EJ Moreno

Going the route of its slasher sibling Halloween, Texas Chainsaw Massacre is rebooting the franchise with a direct sequel to the original film, and THR has broken the story that the upcoming Texas Chainsaw Massacre film will be heading exclusively to Netflix as the streaming service has acquired global rights from Legendary Pictures.

This new franchise entry will ignore the sequels and follow the original 1974 Tobe Hooper classic directly. David Blue Garcia directs, with genre juggernaut Fede Alvarez producing.

Elsie Fisher, Sarah Yarkin, Jacob Latimore, and Moe Dunford star in the Texas Chainsaw sequel. The film will also reportedly bring back the original final girl Sally Hardesty, now played by Mandy actress Olwen Fouéré.

Per Netflix and Legendary, the new sequel “seeks to pick up where the Hooper and Kim Henkel film initially left off, bringing the most notorious horror franchise back to life in the same bold and provocative manner that it was first introduced to the world.”

At the time of reporting, there’s no word from Netflix on a potential release date.
