Gal Gadot confirms Lynda Carter return for Wonder Woman 3

November 14, 2021 by Amie Cranswick

Having briefly made her return to the DC Universe with a cameo appearance in last year’s Wonder Woman 1984, TV’s Amazon Princess Lynda Carter looks set to reprise her role as Asteria, the legendary former champion of the Amazons, in Warner Bros. and DC Films’ Wonder Woman 3.

Carter’s involvement in Patty Jenkins-directed threequel was confirmed this week by current Wonder Woman Gal Gadot, who spoke about her friendship an d admiration for her predecessor during an interview with THR to promote her new movie Red Notice [read our review here].

“First of all, Lynda has mentored me from the very first moment that I got cast as Wonder Woman,” said Gadot. “She was always there, talking to me, giving me tips and everything. She’s a true champion of what Patty and I have been doing, and it was so great that we managed to find the right opportunity to bring her to the last movie and now to the third one.”

At this point, it’s unclear where Wonder Woman 3 falls in the DC movie slate. Earlier this week, it was announced that production on Disney and Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: Rogue Squadron has been delayed owing to Jenkins schedule, although the film is said to remain on course for a Christmas 2023 release with her at the helm. The director is also attached to a Cleopatra movie that will reteam her with Wonder Woman star Gadot, so throw in Wonder Woman 3 and it would seem at least one of these projects will end up having to make way.

However, Jenkins did just recently reconfirm her commitment to the trilogy-capper during last month’s DC FanDome. so perhaps we’ll find ourselves back in Themyscira for Wonder Woman 3 sooner rather than later.

Wonder Woman 1984 reunites Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins with stars Gal Gadot (Diana Prince), Chris Pine (Steve Trevor), Connie Nielsen (Queen Hippolyta) and Robin Wright (General Antiope), along with new additions Kristen Wiig (Ghostbusters) as Barbara Ann Minerva/Cheetah, and Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) as Maxwell Lord.
