Exclusive Interview – Scoring Swan Song with composer Jay Wadley

December 19, 2021 by Gary Collinson

Martin Carr chats with composer Jay Wadley about Swan Song…

Composer Jay Wadley has been in the industry over ten years working extensively in television. Projects for Hulu, Amazon and Netflix have been interspersed with some eclectic film credits – no more so than with the Charlie Kaufman project I’m Thinking of Ending Things, a film which asks a great deal of its audience; often simultaneously.

With his latest collaboration alongside writer director Ben Cleary,
Jay’s talents were called on again to underpin narrative and enhance story without detracting from character. In the hands of another duo Swan Song could have been contentious stuff, yet with Ben Cleary and Jay Wadley it morphs into something supremely touching. The latter recently took time out to talk to Martin Carr about his involvement, and what made this experience so special. Watch the interview below and be sure to follow us on YouTube for more exclusive content…

Set in the near future, “Swan Song” is a powerful, emotional journey told through the eyes of Cameron (Mahershala Ali), a loving husband and father diagnosed with a terminal illness who is presented with an alternative solution by his doctor (Glenn Close) to shield his family from grief. As Cam grapples with whether or not to alter his family’s fate, he learns more about life and love than he ever imagined. “Swan Song” explores how far we will go, and how much we’re willing to sacrifice, to make a happier life for the people we love.

Written and directed by Benjamin Cleary, Swan Song stars Mahershala Ali, Glenn Close, Naomie Harris, Awkwafina, and Adam Beach.

Swan Song is streaming now on Apple TV+.
