Disney+ picks up new Goosebumps series

February 7, 2022 by Gary Collinson

Disney+ is looking to add some chills to its line-up, with the streaming service snapping up the upcoming live-action Goosebumps series with a 10-episode order.

Based on R. L. Stine’s beloved book series, the new show will follow “a group of five high schoolers who unleash supernatural forces upon their town and must all work together – thanks to and in spite of their friendships, rivalries, and pasts with each other – in order to save it, learning much about their own parents’ teenage secrets in the process.”

The project was first announced as being in development a couple of years back, and is being produced by Neal H. Moritz, who produced the 2015 movie and its 2018 sequel Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween. Rob Letterman, who directed the first Goosebumps movie, will helm the pilot episode of the series, which he is also writing and executive producing with Nicholas Stoller (Friends from College).

The series will become the second R. L. Stine project for Disney+ after the live-action Just Beyond horror anthology series, which premiered on the streamer this past October. As yet there has been no word on a potential second season.

Goosebumps is one of the biggest selling book series of all time, with over 400 million English-language copies in print. A live-action series aired between 1996 and 1998, while the two recent movies grossed over $250 million at the box office.
