James Gunn to play himself in Harley Quinn season 3, Harvey Guillen will voice Nightwing

March 19, 2022 by Ricky Church

The upcoming third season of HBO Max’s animated series Harley Quinn is going to feature some real world DC talent as The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker director James Gunn will voice himself in one of the episodes.

The news was announced by Harley Quinn co-creator Patrick Schumaker during a panel at the SXSW film festival. Gunn will guest star as himself as he looks to direct a biopic on Thomas Wayne, the late father of Batman/Bruce Wayne.

Gunn himself commented on the news once it was revealed, saying over Twitter “As an enormous fan of the show, it’s an incredible honor! Thanks to the #HarleyQuinn gang for the fun (PS my Thomas Wayne biopic is going to be a MASTERPIECE!).”

The extent of Gunn’s role was not given, whether it will be merely a cameo or he’ll be a sizeable presence in the episode. This marks his latest work for DC as he begins prep on the second season of Peacemaker and a secret TV series while over at Marvel he’s currently in production on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Meanwhile, in other Harley Quinn-related news, it has been announced that What We Do In the Shadows actor Harvey Guillen is set to voice Nightwing in the third season of the adult animated series, while showrunner Patrick Schumacker has also revealed that he’s in development on a spinoff series focussing on the minor villain Kite-Man, which he describes as “Cheers for supervillains”.

The adult animated comedy series, HARLEY QUINN, follows Harley’s adventures, where alongside ragtag crew of DC castoffs, she tries to earn a seat at the biggest table in villainy: the Legion of the Doom.

Harley Quinn features a voice cast that includes Kaley Cuoco as Harley, Lake Bell as Poison Ivy, Diedrich Bader as Batman, Jacob Tramblay as Robin, Rahul Kohli as Scarecrow, Alan Tudyk as The Joker, Jim Rash as The Riddler, Christopher Meloni as Commissioner Gordon, Sanaa Lathan as Catwoman, Tony Hale as Doctor Psycho, Ron Funches as King Shark, J.B. Smoove as Frank the Plant, Wanda Sykes as the Queen of Fables, Vanessa Marshall as Wonder Woman, James Wolk as Superman, Jacob Tremblay as Damian Wayne, Alfred Molina as Mr. Freeze, Briana Cuoco as Batgirl, Harvey Guillen as Nightwing, and Giancarlo Esposito as Lex Luthor.
