Girls star Evan Jonigkeit to play a familiar mutant in X-Men: Days of Future Past

We already know that Bryan Singer is cramming as many mutants as possible into this year’s X-Men sequel X-Men: Days of Future Past, but we can now add another familiar face to that list with Girls star Evan Jonigkeit revealing to MTV that he’s set to play a younger version of a character from Singer’s original X-Men movie. Obviously there are spoilers ahead…

“It’s a really incredible thing to be a part of. I was so stoked to be working with all of these people. It was a really crazy experience… I read a lot of the comic books. I found out the storyline of my character, who is Toad. X-Men fans will know that Ray Park played him in the first movie, so it’s a generation story of how he came to be. It’s really cool… The aesthetics of the character are much different, and I’m not really allowed to say a whole lot more than that. It’s darker. I would say it’s a darker tone.”

So, with Jonigkeit as Toad alongside Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique, might we get to see Magneto (Michael Fassbender) assembling the Brotherhood of Mutants, possibly as a response to Bolivar Trask’s (Peter Dinklage) efforts to eradicate mutantkind? We’ll find out soon enough…


X-Men: Days of Future Past is set for release on May 23rd with a cast that also includes returning X-Men Hugh Jackman (Wolverine), James McAvoy (Professor X), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), Lucas Till (Havok), Halle Berry (Storm), Ellen Page (Kitty Pryde), Daniel Cudmore (Colossus) and Shawn Ashmore (Iceman) alongside Omar Sy (The Intouchables) as Bishop, Evan Peters (American Horror Story) as Quicksilver, Booboo Stewart (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse) as Warpath, Fan Binbing (Iron Man 3) as Blink, Adam Canto (The Following) as Sunspot, and Josh Helman (Mad Max: Fury Road) as William Stryker.
