Stephen King anthology Cat’s Eye receiving 4K restoration release

April 9, 2022 by Amie Cranswick

StudioCanal has announced the upcoming 4K Ultra HD release of Stephen King’s classic anthology film Cat’s Eye, featuring a brand new 4K restoration from the original 35mm negative.

From the macabre imagination of Stephen King (the bestselling author of Firestarter, The Shining and Carrie) comes this trio of thrilling tales linked by a stray cat that roams from one story to the next in search of a girl he was tasked to protect.

Directed by Lewis Teague and written by the master of horror Stephen King, adapted from his own short stories, CAT’S EYE stars James Woods and Drew Barrymore with Kenneth McMillan, Robert Hays, Alan King and James Naughton.

In the first episode Quitters Inc., a New York family man (James Woods) is having trouble giving up cigarettes. A friend advises he turns to a shady self-help operation who outlines a litany of incrementally harsh penalties for him if he cannot resist the temptation to smoke again.

The second story The Ledge centres on Cressner (Kenneth McMillan), a mobster casino owner seeking revenge for his wife’s affair with tennis pro Johnny Norris (Robert Hays). Cressner kidnaps him and forces the athlete into a dangerous bet: if he can walk around the exterior ledge of his high-rise penthouse then Cressner will allow him to leave safely with his wife. But if Norris refuses then he will instead be blackmailed for drug possession and forced to suffer in prison.

In the closing narrative, a young girl (Drew Barrymore), has been having difficulty sleeping. Though her parents suspect the new family cat of wrongdoing, the girl knows better after she sees a horrifying troll emerging from her bedroom wall…
