Lea Seydoux teases possible Madeleine Swann return in the next James Bond

September 7, 2022 by Gary Collinson

Having become the first Bond Girl since Sylvia Trench to return for a second movie, actress Lea Seydoux has been discussing the possibility of her character Dr. Madelieine Swann making her return to the James Bond universe, despite the rather definitive ending to the Daniel Craig era of 007 in last year’s No Time To Die.

“It was James who died, not Madeleine,” said Seydoux during an appearance the the Telluride Film Festival (via Dark Horizons). “So, who knows? Maybe I’ll be back. This is like fake news, right? But if we’re serious for a moment, Madeleine drives away with her daughter right at the end because James has saved them. There’ll be a new Bond because Daniel’s Bond died but who’s to say that Madeleine won’t be back?”

Of course, with producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson now looking to relaunch the Bond franchise with a new 007 (and No Time To Die putting an end to any continuity questions for this changeover), it would seem likely that the entire supporting cast will be freshened up for what could well be the biggest overhaul in the history of the long-running series.

As such, we’ve most likely seen the last of Seydoux’s Swann, spinoffs aside, and the actress went on to clarify that she’s not held any discussions about a potential return, adding that: “I haven’t spoken to Barbara about whether or not Madeleine would make an appearance in a future Bond film, a lot has to happen before that stage is reached. This is just idle speculation as we talk on the top of a mountain.”

Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.

No Time To Die stars Daniel Craig (James Bond), Ralph Fiennes (M), Naomie Harris (Moneypenny), Rory Kinnear (Tanner), Léa Seydoux (Madeleine Swann), Ben Whishaw (Q), Jeffrey Wright (Felix Leiter), and Christoph Waltz (Blofeld), while new additions include Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody), Ana de Armas (Blade Runner 2049), Lashana Lynch (Captain Marvel), Billy Magnussen (Velvet Buzzsaw), Dali Benssalah (A Faithful Man) and David Dencik (Top of the Lake).
