Paul Greengrass adapting Stephen King’s new novel Fairy Tale

September 19, 2022 by Gary Collinson

Filmmaker Paul Greengrass has optioned the rights to Stephen King’s latest bestseller Fairy Tale and is set to write, direct and production an adaptation of the the fantasy novel.

“Fairy Tale is a work of genius. A classic adventure story and also a disturbing contemporary allegory,” said Greengrass as part of the official announcement, with King adding: “Needless to say, I’m a Paul Greengrass fan and think he’s a wonderful choice for this film.”

Published earlier this month, Fairy Tale tells the story of Charlie Reade, “a seventeen-year-old boy who inherits the keys to a parallel world where good and evil are at war, and the stakes could not be higher – for their world or ours.”

Fairy Tale will mark Greengrass’ first foray behind the camera since 2020’s News of the World, and joins a seemingly endless list of King adaptations in various stages of development. Next up is Netflix’s Mr. Harrigan’s Phone, which just received its first trailer this past week.
