Video Review – Bros is the Will & Grace of movies

October 2, 2022 by EJ Moreno

EJ Moreno reviews the LGBTQ rom-com Bros…

Bros is about to be a big mainstream moment for LGBTQ movies, for better or worse. Even though I am totally the demographic for the film, it just feels too sanitized for me. It ends up feeling like a rerun of Will & Grace rather than this progressive and edgy comedy.

While it sometimes feels too cliched and trope-filled, it seems everyone deserves their own cheesy rom-com. Billy Eichner does his best, but could a different director have brought out the best of the premise? Critic EJ Moreno dives into what works and what doesn’t work in Bros.

Starring Billy Eichner, the first openly gay man to co-write and star in his own major studio film, and featuring an entirely LGBTQ+ principal cast, including Luke Macfarlane (Killjoys), Ts Madison (The Ts Madison Experience), Monica Raymund (Chicago Fire), Guillermo Díaz (Scandal), Guy Branum (The Other Two) and Amanda Bearse (Married …with Children), Bros is directed by Nicholas Stoller from his screenplay with Eichner. The film is produced by Judd Apatow, Stoller, and Joshua Church (co-producer Trainwreck, Step Brothers) and is executive produced by Eichner.

Bros is currently in theaters.
