Dwayne Johnson says the whole point of the Black Adam movie is for eventual Superman face-off

October 12, 2022 by EJ Moreno

We are entering a new era of the DC Universe, and the man ushering this in is Black Adam himself, Dwayne Johnson.

Johnson also knows in this era that DC will need to see significant moments to get fans hooked back into the world. So, the producer/actor is planning some major things, like having his iconic character face off against another iconic character.

When CinemaBlend asked if he “intends to make a movie where Black Adam fights [Superman],” Johnson answered with what we all knew. “Absolutely. That is the whole point of this, man,” says the actor.

Johnson continues, “I have been saying for some time there’s a new era in the DC Universe that’s about to begin. And what I meant by that was introducing a brand new character. It’s not a sequel, not an existing IP. It was…you know, Black Adam. Two years ago, the world had no idea who he was. We did, but not the rest of the masses out there. What I really meant by ‘This is a new era in the DC Universe is listening to the fans. And doing our best to give the fans what they want.”

He finishes it by pushing this is for the fans and plans on bringing DC into its next phase. “I’ve been waiting for someone to step up and address the fans and say, ‘Hey, we hear you,’” Johnson added.

“So finally, after many months turned into many years, we ended up with what we ended up at. And the whole goal and intention now is to this new era, new time. Now let’s build-out.”

We are just weeks away from seeing if Superman will cameo in Black Adam and if Henry Cavill will be the man donning the iconic blue cape. We’ll find out when Black Adam arrives in theaters on October 21st.

Nearly 5,000 years after he was bestowed with the almighty powers of the ancient gods—and imprisoned just as quickly—Black Adam (Johnson) is freed from his earthly tomb, ready to unleash his unique form of justice on the modern world.

Black Adam is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (Jungle Cruise) and sees Dwayne Johnson starring alongside Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone, Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate, Sarah Shahi as Adrianna, Marwan Kenzari as Ishmael, Bodhi Sabongui as Amon and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.

Black Adam is set for release on October 21st, 2022.
