Emma Roberts to lead action-comedy Verona Spies

November 5, 2022 by Gary Collinson

Deadline is reporting that Emma Roberts is set to star alongside Geoffrey Rush in Verona Spies, an action-comedy from director Frank Coraci (The Wedding Singer, The Waterboy).

As per the trade, the film will see the American Horror Story actress as Verona, “a loveable hot mess” who, through a case of mistaken identity, is hired as an escort/assassin. Her mission: to seduce a pharmaceutical executive and steal his formula for a revolutionary new drug that can change the world. When she meets her charmingly handsome target, sparks fly. Instead of killing him they decide to team up and flee for their lives as Big Pharma and hired killers come gunning for them.”

Oscar-winner Rush will portrayed the head of the pharmaceutical company chasing down the star-crossed lovers, while casting is underway for Roberts’ male co-star.

“If there ever was going to be a more comedic version of the classic, True Romance, here it is,” said Coraci. “I’m super amped to make this hilarious and action-packed flick with this amazing cast. Verona Spies is sure to be a fun and unforgettable ride.”

Roberts is currently shooting Sony’s Marvel movie Madame Web along with Amazon’s Space Cadet. She was most recently seen in the horror-thriller Abandoned [read our review here] and rom-com About Fate.
