With Wakanda Forever on the horizon Black Adam ekes out another $18.5M atop the box office

November 7, 2022 by Matt Rodgers

Black Adam‘s final stand at the top of the U.S. box-office managed to earn the DCEU blockbuster a further $18.5 million before Black Panther: Wakanda Forever roars into town next weekend.

Dwayne Johnson’s 15-years in the making origin story held quite well in the face of little-to-no competition, taking its domestic tally to $137 million. Overseas territories also sated their superhero needs to the tune of $25.4 million, which took the international cume to $182 million.

The current worldwide total is $320 million, with industry experts predicting that Black Adam will top out with around $400 million. This would put it above the likes of Shazam! ($366m worldwide) and Birds of Prey ($205m worldwide), but below Justice League ($657m worldwide).

The only real challenger to Black Adam’s throne this weekend came in the form of Crunchyroll’s anime import One Piece Film: Red, which arrived with the tag of being one of the Top 10 grossing films of all time there with $120 million, and grossed $9.5 million at the North American box-office.

Just below it in the chart are two genuine fall success stories in the shape of George Clooney and Julia Roberts rom-com Ticket to Paradise, which dropped just -14% for an $8.5 million weekend and $46.7 million total. Expect this to keep playing gangbusters as counter-programming Wakanda Forever.

Similarly the destined for a streaming service effort Smile got to within touching distance of the $100 million domestic mark, having broken the $200 million worldwide barrier during the week. A stunning achievement for the $17 million movie, especially considering Halloween Ends has only just limped over the $100 million global mark.

All of these numbers will be obliterated next week when Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever looks to open with over $200 million at the domestic box-office. Stay tuned.

Details on all the blockbusters and bombs can be found over at BoxOfficeMojo.
