Lin-Manuel Miranda joins Disney+’s Percy Jackson series as Hermes

November 10, 2022 by EJ Moreno

Lin-Manuel Miranda is the herald of the gods, as Deadline reports that the filmmaker, singer, and performer will star in the upcoming Disney+ Percy Jackson series, set to star as the Greek god Hermes.

Miranda will play “the messenger god who looks out for travelers and thieves and is a bit of a trickster himself. He is charismatic & boisterous, the life of the party.”

The upcoming Percy Jackson series is the latest adaptation of author Rick Riordan’s popular young adult novels. Walker Scobell takes up the mantle of Percy Jackson, a twelve-year-old who discovers he is the son of the Greek god Poseidon. He then joins Camp Half-Blood, a special training camp, hoping to become a hero.

The series will co-star Leah Sava Jeffries and Aryan Simhadri. They’re joined by Virginia Kull, Glynn Turman, Jason Mantzoukas, Megan Mullally, Timm Sharp, Dior Goodjohn, and Charlie Bushnell.

Deadline adds that Miranda’s “Hermes charm does not do much to heal his strained relationship with his son, Luke (Charlie Bushnell). He’s hesitant to help Percy and his friends on their quest as sometimes getting involved is more trouble than it’s worth.”

James Bobin is set to direct a script from creator Rick Riordan and writer Jon Steinberg. Filming for Percy Jackson began last June, and the series is set to debut exclusively on Disney+ in 2024.

You can see Lin-Manuel Miranda next in The Little Mermaid from Disney, set for release on May 26th, 2023.
