Paul McGann returns for Doctor Who: The Eighth Doctor Adventures: Time War – Cass in January

November 12, 2022 by Andrew Newton

The Eighth Doctor will be returning next January with another Time War saga and Big Finish Productions have now made this available to pre-order.  The Eighth Doctor Adventures: Time War – Cass is a brand-new box set that sees Paul McGann reprise his role as the Eighth Doctor for three full cast audio adventures.

The Eighth Doctor Adventures: Time War – Cass features three new adventures for listeners to enjoy – Meanwhile, Elsewhere by Tim Foley;  Vespertine by Lou Morgan and Previously, Next Time by James Moran (two parts).  In these new adventures, Paul McGann’s Eighth Doctor is still trying to escape the horrors of the Time War and avoid his fate of becoming a warrior, something he really doesn’t want to become.  Joined by a new companion, one that he has met before (or after), the Doctor will face seemingly impossible odds.

Joining the Doctor is Cass Fermazzi, played by Emma Campbell-Jones, who first appeared in the 2013 TV special mini-episode, The Night of the Doctor.  However, this time she is meeting him at an earlier point in his life.

Also returning to the Eighth Doctor adventures is Sonny McGann as Alex Campbell, the Doctor’s cheeky great-grandson from a different universe.

Emma Campbell-Jones said: “I’ve been very much hoping and wishing ever since we did that minisode that there would be more adventure and magic at some point. Words can’t describe how happy I am to be back.  In The Night of the Doctor, it felt like Cass was just starting out and then her story was very much curtailed. It was desperately heartbreaking. I love that she has another chance — unwittingly, as she doesn’t know her story yet. I’m really excited about her journeys to come and that she has more life to live. It’s beautiful and exciting.”

Paul McGann said: “I was very happy to find out that Emma and Sonny were joining me as regulars. This feels special to me. It’s great and I have a good feeling about it. It really works!”

Producer David Richardson said: “Cass is back and she even gets to be the title of this fifth box set in the Eighth Doctor’s Time War saga! But how can this be? Cass met the Doctor once in The Night of the Doctor and died at the end of that story. Unless something cataclysmic is happening to the course of history… something huge like a war within time…”

Eighth Doctor fans can pre-order The Eighth Doctor Adventures: Time War – Cass now for £24.99 for the collector’s edition 4-disc CD box set and digital download or £19.99 for the digital download only.
