John Krasinski has had no talks with Marvel over Reed Richards return for Fantastic Four

December 16, 2022 by Gary Collinson

For the first time since joining the Marvel Studios fold as a result of Disney’s Fox takeover, the Fantastic Four made their first mark on the MCU this year with John Krasinski’s cameo as Reed Richards in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Krasinski had long been mentioned by fans as not only a possible Reed (alongside his wife Emily Blunt as Susan Storm), but also a candidate for the director’s chair on Marvel’s Fantastic Four movie. And while his Doctor Strange 2 cameo seemed to point towards that direction, it now seems that Krasinski’s time as Mister Fantastic is looking like a one-and-done affair.

As we know, Matt Shakman (WandaVision) is now set to direct Fantastic Four from a script by Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer (Bert and Arnie’s Guide to Friendship), and now Krasinski has confirmed to The Wrap that he’s had no further talks with Marvel beyond the Multiverse of Madness appearance.

“There aren’t any discussions at all, the only discussion I had was actually in the second-to-last week of Jack Ryan,” said Krasinski during a press interview for the new season of his Amazon series. “Kevin Feige called and said would you ever fly to L.A. and play in our sandbox for a day? I was honored to do it. I flew right from Budapest when we wrapped and went right to the Doctor Strange set. I’m a big fan of all those characters and that world, so to get to play in that sandbox for one day was a real thrill.”

“It’s totally insane,” he continued. “To be in a room with all those people, and again to be a part of that narrative is crazy. But yeah, being turned into spaghetti wasn’t my end goal in life as far as how it goes in the Marvel universe, but you know what it was fun nonetheless.”
